Web pages can redirect to a new domain for three reasons:
A site may want, or need, to change its domain name;
An author might move their individual pages to a new domain;
Merging two sites at once.
By way of a website redirect, incoming links to websites with expired URLs can be sent to the correct location. These links may come from other sites that haven’t noticed that there was a change or from bookmarks/favorites that users have saved in their browsers. The same goes for search engines.
